Leila, Morse, Wendy, ~ 03

{Wendy’s Bungalow + Leila ~ 2}
``Leila: So how come, you can communicate with them? ``Wendy: I have been friends with them ever since my Dad died, which is when I took over the run. ``Leila: So what’s their phone number? ``Wendy: Ha, hah! But I do have a two-way radio on their sub-ether waveband. ``Leila: How come you have got that?

``Wendy: They needed a sack of some of our raw minerals and a certain type of yellow gold composite from a supernova explosion, so we told them how and where to find it, and they did the rest. Therefore, I have some spare nuggets hidden away, so we can use them to barter for our passage. ``Leila: You mean, you have actually met them? ``Wendy: Of course! ``Leila: Why did you not go with them? ``Wendy: They were going back to a mining colliery, where there are hardly any suitable life forms or entertainment.

``Leila: Can I see this thing? ``Wendy: Sure, and I have built it inside this wind-up Roberts radio. I plug in this diamond shape aerial at the back, move this switch over, plug in the Morse code key sender into mike input & we wait as we are now live, but it works better at night. ``Leila: What about their language? ``Wendy: It will be in Morse code, but we usually use sign language or draw images, so we can understand each other. ``Leila: So you are waiting for them to contact ‘you’? ``Wendy: Yes, but that is the unknown factor, because I don’t know when. ``Leila: [noise] What is that whistling effect? ``Wendy: Just atmospherics from the universe. ``Leila: Are you sure this is not a hoax? ``Wendy: Some say we never went to the moon! ``Leila: So how come, that your radio works? ``Wendy: Well, you will only be convinced, when you hear and see it for yourself! ``Leila: It’s incredible. I always thought that there was other life, besides our own.

``Wendy: So you are coming? ``Leila: Too right, I would not want to miss this for the world. Oh heck! What am I saying? So how long do we have? ``Wendy: We need to make urgent arrangements, so people here think that everything is normal. ``Leila: I’ll tell mother, she will look after my place and the cat. ``Wendy: Oh dear! I too have a similar problem, because who will look after my place while we are away and what happens if we don’t get back? Another problem is that my old friend Robert is inside, for a couple of years.

``Leila: It looks like that we will both have to make amendments to our Wills, and have them signed on oath and counter-signed by a doctor that we are fit and well, and mentally sound in mind body and soul. ``Wendy: Okay, but separate solicitors and your solicitor can release an additional letter to your family; say after 28 days that we have departed. Otherwise, this will create another mystery and they will tell the police, as kind loving and responsible parents would do, that we have allegedly gone missing.

``Leila: So who will look after your property? ``Wendy: I will have to stay independent and get Sandy and Mark to do it. This should surprise them, even if they don’t believe me, they will have to go along with the epi0, just to prove whether I am bluffing or not. However the curiosity should get to the better of them.

[Noise and crackle from the Radio]
[Morse transmission In] ``Wendy: Quick, get a pencil and paper, ‘-../.-/-../-../-.- -’ Daddy! It is my friends. [Morse transmission out] ‘--- /…/---’. S.O.S ‘-.-. /.-/--/./.-..’ ``Camel. [Morse transmission In from Scotty] ‘..---/’ Two ‘…/..- /-./…’ suns! ``Leila: You mean, we have two days? ``Wendy: Yea, that’s about it. ``Leila: We will have to move quickly! ``Wendy: [Morse Keyed out] ‘------’ I have confirmed it, and told them we want to go to the Camelopardalis System. It is now Tuesday afternoon, so that should mean Thursday afternoon for final call, and then Thursday evening pick up, after midnight. ``Leila: Are you sure, no one will pick this up, as we are using standard distress code? ``Wendy: This is not on any earth band or side band frequency, as it has it’s own unique encryption system. ``Leila: Oh I see, well I think I do.
