Episode 0001 - The Disembarkation: Wendy, ~ 01 {Wendy’s Bungalow, Lounge ~ 1} ``Wendy: It’s Sunday morning again, and I am still here! Let’s check that calendar! Yes it is, the 17th June, 2013. So where are they? I’ve sent them a SOS on their sub-ether waveband last week, but still no one in sight. Surely it’s only a matter of time for someone to come this way who can get through our asteroid belt, which stops our space ships from breaking away. I know it could still be days or lunar cycles, before I can catch a lift, but surely not! I just need a break, and have some real excitement. Whereas I am frustrated, as I want to take someone with me as a friend, but who? Regardless of that who is going to believe me? Or who would want to come with me anyway, as they will just think that I’m crazy. Is it the old age creeping to her head, although I am only 54! They will just want to be polite and friendly, and then be nasty behind my back. --- Moreover, who else would not be worried about leaving the Earth behind? The problem is with my friends who do understand is; it would not be for them or they have too many of their own commitments even to consider such an adventurous possibility, even if they could. {Wendy’s Bungalow, Kitchen ~ 1} Oh dear, I need another drink. I’ll put the kettle on for a coffee. --- How could we just disappear from the Earth without a care in the world, and what about all the fuss and the mystery and commotion which could break out on international news! ‘Alien Abduction’! Well in a sense it is, but its not, because we are going voluntarily! Anyway, I would not want any of that publicity. It’s okay for me, because my daughter Zoë has grown up at 28, but she just wants to stay here, as she feels settled. What sort of excuse is that? Especially as she understands [Water boils] that life just revolves; saying, “why does it matter Mummy”? We will all meet up anyway in another place and time. --- Ah, that’s better, that will squash my nerves. She could fly home, as we would not have time to pick her up from the Outback. Oh, I’m hungry now! I need a snack. We may have to fetch some more minerals along the way, but time is getting short, as the S.O.S. message (Send Our Ship) is way out into space by now, and there are thousands of aliens out there who can pick up my distress call. Ah! I know! Got it at last! Leila! She will come; she is looking for an adventure of a lifetime. This will make other things look ‘small fry’ compared to this. Leila would naturally miss her family and her friends, and they will miss her too, especially since her father has died. However, she is 42, and her family will be leading their own lives, especially now that her brother and his wife have decided to bring new life into this world. So it does not matter, but that is probably being very cynical and selfish. Now, how am I going to break this devastating news to her, because I have only known her for a short time? How will she take these obnoxious remarks of mine? Will she accept my reasoning or will she rebel and I lose a new friend? Oh hell! Now what do I do? She will need time to adjust, but oh dear, I have little time left, and I do not want to go without her. Oh, blast! I must eat another piece of fruit cake, as I can feel butterflies in my stomach. Even if she does agree, what on earth are we going to say to her family. We could start off by saying that we are on a months voyage around Africa, and will be out of range of mobile telecommunications for a lot of the time. Well that is a ship, but not a space ship. Initially that would probably work, but then what happens, when we do not arrive back, and they check up on us, only to find out that we were not on that ship anyway. How will she break the news that her friend Wendy and she will be disappearing for a few weeks! What will her overprotective family say? ‘Mother, she must be crazy, you can’t just walk off and leave us like that, and we need you here’. Yea, yea I have heard it all before, just so they can have a free baby-sitter. I must learn not to be so cynical in my judgements, but I must do something now! I know I’ll give her a ring.
